The New Drug Xylazine is Deadly: Simplifying and Enhancing Reliable Drug Testing is a MUST

Small Volume Blood Toxicology Tests

Blood has long been recognized as the gold standard for accurate and reliable toxicology testing. However, its invasive and inconvenient nature, requiring a phlebotomist and blood draw, has been a significant drawback. Physicians Toxicology has revolutionized blood testing, introducing a less invasive, fast, and convenient solution with small volume blood toxicology tests.

These tests offer a groundbreaking alternative that simplifies and enhances the reliability of blood testing. The laboratory can swiftly detect a wide range of drugs, including xylazine, and can detect levels as low as 2 ng/mL in the blood. The approach prioritizes client needs and enables rapid introduction of additional drug tests.

Why We Wanted to Start Testing So Quickly

Xylazine, also known as Tranq, Tranq Dope, and Zombie Drug, has infiltrated illicit drug supplies, often mixed with heroin and fentanyl. Originating as an animal sedative, xylazine is unsuitable for human consumption and does not respond to naloxone, making its detection crucial for patient outcomes.

Healthcare professionals must implement rapid xylazine testing protocols to identify and address its presence in affected individuals, enabling early detection and appropriate intervention.

Speed and Stability of the Blood

Drugs are detectable in blood within minutes to hours, whereas in urine they must be metabolized first. Most drugs remain stable in small volume blood specimens for at least 10 days at room temperature and 30 days when refrigerated or frozen.

Maintaining the Sample's Chain of Custody

Each collection kit includes a clamshell with two VAMS tips, individually labeled with unique identifiers. A requisition number is attached to the clamshell at collection. Upon arrival at the lab, the sample is assigned a specimen number, enabling traceability throughout each process to ensure proper chain of custody.

Unlocking the Potential of Small Volume Blood Testing in Addiction Medicine

Urine testing has served as the standard in addiction medicine but carries inherent limitations including sample adulteration risk and use of fake samples. Small volume blood testing addresses these vulnerabilities through a superior methodology offering unparalleled accuracy and reliability.

Blood testing remains the most reliable matrix for drug detection. The small volume approach eliminates concerns about invasiveness through a simple finger prick rather than complicated blood draws, maximizing patient comfort while enabling detection of drugs within minutes of use.

This innovative methodology allows healthcare professionals to confidently diagnose and monitor patients for precise and personalized treatment plans, representing a pivotal shift in addiction medicine practices.
